A Determined Purpose by Ann-Louise Gremminger
What is your determined purpose? In all aspects life, it takes determination and hard work to accomplish any goal, whether that goal is to finish college, raise a family or build a career.
As a Christian, in relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ, what is your determined purpose? Are you determined to follow His ways? Are you determined to obey His Word? Determined to spread His Word? Become more like Him?
Let’s take a look at Paul’s determination…
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death…” (Philippians 3:10).
Another translation expounds on Paul’s thoughts and expresses it this way…
“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection..” *
Are you determined to know Christ “more deeply and intimately”?
Are you determined to know “the wonders of His person”?
If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, you do have some knowledge of Him. You know that He shed His blood on the cross for you and died and rose again. But, beyond that, what do you really know of Him?
When you first become acquainted with someone, you don’t immediately know all about them. You don’t know their likes, their dislikes, their habits, where they do or what they do.
It takes time and work to build a close relationship with another human being. It also takes time and work to build a close relationship with Christ. He is always accessible to us. He’s never distracted and never too busy.
He is very interested in spending time with you. He wants you to involve Him in every aspect of your life. He wants you to spend time sitting at His feet and learning of Him. He wants you to get to know Him by talking with Him, hearing His voice and studying His Word.
So, again we ask the question, “What is your determined purpose?”
May each of us have a determined purpose of knowing our Savior “more deeply and intimately.”
